Kierra and Dan – you guys were incredible! Definitely up there as one of the most adventurous weddings I have had the pleasure to photograph, for sure!
In the middle of summer Kierra and Dan planned to marry on a secret secluded beach in Whangamata. Accessible only by four wheel drive or tractor off the back of a private farm, this ceremony spot was pure heaven. Under the reaching shady branches of the pohutukawa and with a backdrop and soundtrack of the beating waves of the whangamata surf, you couldn’t have asked for a more purely kiwi summer spot.
They arranged to have their guests transported to the ceremony on tractor and trailer up the farm tracks and down onto the beach, had a spot to leave their shoes so they could enjoy the sand between their toes and made sure that there were drinks and nibbles available for celebrations after the ceremony. And cake, too. Can’t forget that!
After the ceremony and some congratulations we headed across the beach for some fun and creative photos (seriously, Kierra and Dan weren’t afraid to climb on the rocks, jump off, and just be themselves, it was great!) before heading up the farm and taking advantage of the incredible views. Kierra had some photos she wanted to recreate, specifically one from Dan’s childhood in the doorway of one of the barns on the farm. Then with perfect timing, just before the rain set in, we got a couple of cool shots with the lads in their gumboots and headed off their reception in another stunningly decorated barn.
