When one of your best friends in the whole world comes back from an overseas trip all loved up and engaged, its pretty much compulsary to take the mystery fiancee into the forest and shoot them — photograph them, that it is.
Dom and Josh allowed me to drag them around on a winter morning adventure through the totally gorgeous forest at Taitua Arboretum, a sweet weekend spot in the Waikato. This was my way of getting to know Josh a bit better and seeing just what I could convince him to do on record and in front of the camera.
I had known all about Josh from the start, but hadn’t had the chance to meet him before he proposed to my beautiful friend Dominique (due to the long-distanceness of their relationship), so I needed to know he was an alright kind of guy. I needn’t have worried though, Dom has discerning taste in all things good and it turns out this was no different. We had a great time wandering through the forest and they were both so natural in front of the camera, freshly engaged and all loved up and they just did their thing together while I got all creative behind the lens.
See if you can spot the 3 bokeh panoramas we created – huge composited photographs that give more depth than a camera can catch on its own. Some from this shoot are made up of more than 20 images stitched together!, some freelensing -where the lens is separated from the camera for the photograph, and some fun with silhouette and reflections.
And if you’re wondering – yes, Josh got the seal of approval – who could deny the happiness flowing from these two!
