When we first met, Katrina and Adrian told me that this would be their second wedding, or rather, the second part to their wedding. Chatting over Skype from England, their wedding plans were two fold – a traditional English wedding midwinter, in their local chapel, with Adrian’s English family attending. And then a super relaxed Kiwi backyard wedding, in the heat of a New Zealand summer, to finish off their vows in the presence of Katrina’s Kiwi family. How amazing (and maybe a little stressful) to plan not one, but two weddings, in two different seasons and half the world away!
One one of the hottest January days that Tauranga could muster up, Katrina and Adrian finished off getting married in her parent’s gorgeous backyard overlooking Tauranga Harbour, surrounded by friends and family, with elements of their faith, and links to their family and friends from all around the world. One of my favourite parts of their wedding was that they did things their way – getting married twice, so that everyone could share in the joy, staying true to themselves by having a lego building competition instead of dancing, their WALL-E themed wedding cake, the English tea wedding favours, and taking some time together at the end of the day to dip their toes in the harbour and cool off.
